Subject: Houma Animal Rescue in need of help
First, let say hello to those of you I haven't spoken with since Katrina. Thanks for all that you did for Louisiana and the Gulf Coast back then.
.
Tracy Lapeyrouse and I, who have been working animal rescue for many years together in Houma, LA have finally formed our own 501c3 non-profit group called My Heart's Desire. And now we find ourselves in need again thanks to Gustave.
Please note that I am NOT asking for your direct help because I know all of you are either hurting from the hurricane too or you have your own needs to take care of your own animals. But, I thought you may know of a group looking to help; or, if you live in the Houma area, you might know individuals/families that might want to make a tax deductible donation.
We have about 2 1/2 days of food left. Our water is under a boil order. And we don't have sewerage capabilities.
We have about 45 animals in our care, 90% dogs. The inside temperatures reached 90 degrees and we had to buy to generators because the animals were starting to heat stroke. It costs us about $100 daily to run them.
Neither Petsmart nor Petco are open to purchase if we even had enough money to do that.
Many of you may remember us from our days working with the Terrebonne Animal Shelter in Houma. Please note that I'm now writing on behalf of My Heart's Desire, our newly formed group. Sometimes these things can get confusing in emails/phone calls.
If you know of anyone who can help us with donations of Pedigree Dry Small Crunchy Bites, Pedigree Canned food, Pedigree Canned Weight Management (I know you may have other food available but we are trying our best to keep them on the same diet to minimize intestinal distress especially since we don't have sewerage available, towels, small blankets, flea control, heartworm prevention, large crates, gas cards please let us
know.
My number is 985-852-4554 and Tracy's is 985-226-4693. If the calls don't go through, you can try texting. But, sometimes email is our only link to communication.
Thank you for all that you do for all of the animals out there that would never make it to another day without you. You are the true heroes of our communities.
