It's been a very long, busy day and I think I may have 2 readers so far (me and my trusty dog, Ronny) so I haven't updated. I just had to take a minute to note that Ike has been a very busy boy himself. Actually, he flew through puberty and is a full-blown man. I think he may have gotten hold of some steroids.
As of the 11 p.m. EDT update from the National Hurricane Center, Ike had sustained winds of 135 mph and was moving WNW at 17 mph. When Dr. Masters gave his update at a little after 3 p.m. CDT, he said, "Ike will probably remain a Category 1 hurricane through Friday, then enter a period of rapid intensification to major hurricane status Saturday or Sunday" so I was quite shocked when I saw that Ike had become a Cat 3 by the 8 p.m. NHC update and then a Cat 4 by the 11 p.m. I bet Dr. Masters was, too. He is, by far, one of the absolute best so this had to be a shocker for many.
The latest forecast track from the NHC is below; however, I believe that the models that are part of what they use to make their forecast were initiated with winds of 65 knots, or 74 mph, and this does make a difference in forecasting.
The entire state of Florida and people alone the east coast of the U.S. should be aware that Ike is out there, although there are still several days before he reaches the U.S. and his track is still uncertain.
I'll post in the a.m. about Hanna and more info on Ike.
